Local Café Named Regional Small Business of the Year for 2014

The Small Business of the Year Award for 2014 has gone to The Getaway Café in South Lake Tahoe.  Each year, in honor of Small Business Week, the Sierra Economic Development Corporation (SEDCorp)  selects a small business for the award.
South Lake Tahoe resident and business owner, Diane Guth was selected for the award on April 3, 2014. Businesses were evaluated on such criteria as economic impact, increase in sales, product line expansion, penetration into new markets, job growth, upgrading management capabilities, participation in trainings and workshops, community involvement and dedication to the community that the business serves.

During Small Business Week, SEDCorp honors small business owners and workers for their important role in leading the way in an economy distinguished by low unemployment and sustained job creation. Randy Wagner, SEDCorp CEO states, “We applaud the men and women who own and operate small businesses and spur economic growth. Through their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence, they help ensure that America remains a place where dreams are realized”. SEDCorp provided them with a business loan under the SBA Micro-Loan program in 2012 and they have also benefited from SEDCorp’s technical assistance as well.

The Getaway Café is a quaint family-style restaurant located in the small community of Meyers off Highway 50 and just outside of South Lake Tahoe. They specialize in what they refer to as “Alpine Comfort Cuisine”. That translates to some darn good home cookin! Breakfast and Lunch are served daily and Dinner is offered four evenings per week. The restaurant also offers an impressive wine and beer list. Diane and her employees are dedicated to great food, great service and a comfortable atmosphere.
